Phi Coefficient Calculator

Phi coefficient is used to measure the strength of association between two nominal variables. The value of phi ($\phi$) statistic satisfies the condition $0\leq \phi \leq 1$.

  • $\phi$ close to 0 indicate that there is a weak association between the two variables
  • $\phi$ close to 1 indicate that there is a strong association between the two variables.

Phi Coefficient formula: $$ \begin{aligned} \phi &= \sqrt{\frac{\chi^2}{n}} \end{aligned} $$

where

  • $n$ : Total Sample size
  • $\phi$ : phi coefficient
